Mad Max / blu-ray collection in limited edition tin box set

Warner Home Video will release the three Mel Gibson Mad Max movies in this limited edition tin box on 12 August (in the UK).

The gasoline can metal packaging is reminiscent of 15th anniversary DVD edition of Reservoir Dogs which came in a similar style.

In the US this is already out, although as usual the design is different.

Mad Max was originally released in 1979, and a sequel Mad Max Road Warrior appeared in 1982. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome co-starring a fright-wigged Tina Turner (who also – Dennis Waterman style – sang the theme tune) followed in 1985.

the major downside here is that the Mad Max 2 disc is “just” the 25GB disc available. sadly it seems none of the extra scenes from the “lost” TV version have surfaced, and no documentary footage from the time has been put on. that said, this is the only uncut Mad Max 2 you can get – the DVD is the butchered version with “Road Warrior” as the name.

on the plus side, this set probably costs about what you would pay for the first Mad Max on its own, and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, not a bad film at all, has not had a BR release before.
